Yokoi Shōnan was a prominent Japanese politician and intellectual who lived through one of the most transformative periods in Japanese history. His career spanned the late Edo and early Meiji periods, during which he contributed to political discourse and reform efforts.

Shōnan passed away in 1869 and was interred at Tenju-an, a final resting place befitting his status and contributions to Japanese political life during the nation's modernization.
