Biography
Zephaniah Platt, born in 1735, was a lawyer and statesman whose early service in the New York Provincial Congress and the Continental Congress helped steer his state into independence, and whose leadership later guided the founding of Plattsburgh.
He continued to shape civic life through the early republic, and his grave at Riverside Cemetery recalls a career spent in public service and the building of new communities along the Lake Champlain shore.
