Biography

Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook (1891–1982), son of the first Ashkenazi chief rabbi, led Mercaz HaRav yeshiva for decades, shaping generations of Religious Zionist leaders with his teachings and emphasis on the sanctity of the land of Israel. His sermons and writings wove together tradition and national responsibility, offering spiritual guidance as the state matured.

He guided students and communities in grappling with modern challenges, always pointing to the centrality of Torah study and service to the Jewish people. His grave on the Mount of Olives stands near those of fellow leaders, a testament to his enduring influence.
