Biography

A'Lelia Walker ran the Walker cosmetics empire with energy and style, building on her mother's work while creating a salon in Harlem that became a gathering place for artists, musicians, and intellectuals of the Renaissance.

She invested in the community through performances, parties that encouraged new talent, and philanthropy that highlighted African American creativity, and after her passing she was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery with the grace her life exemplified.
