Abiel Holmes

Biography

Abiel Holmes was a clergyman and scholar whose intellectual contributions enriched the religious and cultural life of New England during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His ministerial work and scholarly pursuits reflected the highest ideals of his calling and era.

Holmes's dedication to both spiritual guidance and intellectual advancement earned him lasting recognition in his community. His burial in Mount Auburn Cemetery honors his significant contributions to religious thought and practice throughout his life from 1763 to 1837.
