Biography

Winslow Homer (1836–1910) was an American painter and printmaker widely regarded as one of the foremost artists of the 19th century. Known for his masterful depictions of the sea, maritime life, and the American wilderness, Homer brought a distinctive realism and emotional depth to his subjects. His works capture the drama and beauty of nature with technical skill and artistic sensitivity.

Homer's career evolved from his early work as an illustrator during the Civil War to his mature period as a fine artist. He spent much of his later life in relative isolation in Maine, where he created some of his most celebrated seascapes and hunting scenes. His influence on American art remains significant, and his paintings continue to be celebrated for their powerful compositions and profound connection to the natural world.
