Abijah Bigelow

Biography

Abijah Bigelow was born during the American Revolutionary era and lived through the formative decades of the young republic. His long life of eighty-five years provided him with perspective on the nation's development from its earliest independence through the antebellum period.

Bigelow's burial at Rural Cemetery reflects his deep roots in his community. His extended lifespan allowed him to witness the tremendous changes that reshaped American society, from the early republic through the eve of the Civil War.
