Biography

Adna Chaffee’s early experiences in the Civil War and the Indian Wars prepared him for higher command, where he applied a steady hand to cavalry modernization and the training of mounted troops.

In the twilight of a long career, he offered counsel on expeditionary operations and officer development, and Arlington National Cemetery now shelters the tomb of this soldier-statesman.
