Edmund P. Gaines

Biography

Edmund P. Gaines was a distinguished military officer whose service and leadership contributed to the defense and development of the United States during a critical period in the nation's history. Born in 1777, he devoted much of his life to military service and the advancement of American interests.

Gaines's long life of 72 years allowed him to witness and participate in many of the formative events of the early American republic. His military career and contributions earned him recognition as a respected figure, and his legacy is preserved through his burial in Church Street Graveyard, where he rests among other notable citizens of his era.
