Biography

Alexander Wilson, often called the father of American ornithology, pursued the study of birds with an artist’s eye and a scientist’s determination. His travels and keen observations produced a landmark series of volumes that brought the richness of North American natural life to wider notice.

Wilson balanced his scientific pursuits with parish responsibilities, and though he died young, Gloria Dei Church marks his final resting place, preserving the memory of a naturalist whose work still inspires.
