Biography

Alice Bird Babb was a founding leader of Pi Beta Phi, the women's fraternity that sought to lift higher education for young women across the nation. She served as the first national president, promoting scholarship, philanthropy, and the companionship of sisters who could encourage one another through college and beyond.

Beyond the fraternity, she treasured teaching and community work, believing that women could shape society with intellect and empathy; her focus on literacy and public service endures in the clubs and schools she inspired. Today she rests at Forest Home Cemetery, a reminder of the pioneering women who advanced the promise of learning.
