Almeda Eliza Hitchcock
1863–1895 (age 32)
Biography
Almeda Eliza Hitchcock, born in 1863, pursued legal studies at a time when few women did so, becoming the first woman admitted to the bar in the Hawaiian Kingdom after graduating from the University of Michigan Law School.
She returned home to serve clients with a sharp mind and a compassionate heart, mentoring others and showing that, through diligent study and moral courage, a woman could contribute fully to public life; her memory rests with gratitude at Homelani Memorial Park.
