Biography

Joseph Nāwahī, born in 1842, studied and taught in Hawaiʻi before rising to prominence as a gifted communicator, using his voice in the legislature and through the press to uplift the language and stories of the Hawaiian people.

He stood resolutely for the rights of his nation, even as political storms grew, and he remains a symbol of the enduring commitment to Hawaiian sovereignty and to the care of future generations at Homelani Memorial Park.
