Biography
Ambrose Burnside rose to national attention as a military officer, commanding troops with honor during the Civil War and enduring both success and setback with integrity. His distinctive appearance belied an earnest devotion to duty and an abiding concern for the men under his command.
After the war he continued public service as Governor and later as U.S. Senator from Rhode Island, guiding reconstruction and infrastructure efforts before being laid to rest at Swan Point Cemetery.
