Biography

Amos Root (1839-1923) devoted his life to the study and celebration of beekeeping, sharing both practical wisdom and reverence for the tiny workers he admired. Through his periodical, The A B C and X Y Z of Bee Culture, and his writing, he elevated apiculture into a respected science and encouraged curiosity about the natural world.

He welcomed visitors to his apiaries, taught generations of hobbyists and professionals, and fostered a warm community bound by respect for the bees and for one another. Amos Root rests at Spring Grove Cemetery, remembered for his tireless efforts to cultivate knowledge and fellowship.
