Biography
Amos Whitney was an inventive mechanical engineer whose partnership with Francis A. Pratt created the enterprise that became Pratt & Whitney, advancing precision machine tools that sustained American manufacturing during the latter half of the nineteenth century.
He carried the same attention to detail and civic responsibility into his later years, supporting charitable causes and maintaining the friendships he forged in Hartford while resting in the peaceful grounds of Cedar Hill Cemetery.
