Biography

Andrew Craigie, born in 1754, was a Boston pharmacist whose early service as the first Apothecary General of the Continental Army helped provide vital medical supplies during the Revolutionary War. He later became a prominent merchant and landowner in Cambridge, investing in infrastructure such as the bridge that still bears his name and supporting the growth of the fledgling city.

Through his business acumen and civic-minded projects, Craigie helped shape the commercial profile of early Boston and left a legacy of public works and philanthropy that carried forward into the young nation’s development.
