Biography
Born into the Taylor family of Salt Lake City in 1849, Annie Taylor Hyde took to heart the pioneering example of her father, John Taylor, and she became a natural steward of the community's collective memory. When she helped organize the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in 1901, she committed herself to gathering artifacts, oral histories, and songs so that the courage and faith of the early settlers would be honored.
She bolstered educational programs, welcomed newcomers, and encouraged women to serve alongside one another, leaving behind an organization that still guards its founder's ideals; she rests in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
