Biography
Born Lester Joseph Gillis, he earned the nickname 'Baby Face Nelson' as he became one of the most notorious bank robbers of the 1930s, partnering with the Dillinger gang to carry out daring raids while amassing public fear and reluctant admiration.
His life came to a violent end in 1934 during a shootout with federal agents near Barrington, Illinois, yet the stories of that turbulent era still draw visitors to St. Joseph Cemetery, where his remains lie alongside other family members.
