Biography

Benjamin F. Isherwood (1822-1915) became one of the nation's foremost naval engineers, guiding the United States Navy through its transition to steam power and championing precision in every engine room he oversaw.

The officers and apprentices he mentored carried forward his insistence on rigorous study, and he is honored at Oakland Cemetery.
