Biography
Benjamin Orell, born in 1889, came to architecture with a commitment to disciplined craftsmanship and a desire to give the new communities a sense of permanence, contributing to civic and institutional projects that balanced European modernism with local needs.
He helped to mentor younger builders and was known for insisting on sound construction and elegant facades, a tradition of care and attention that survives in the memories of the neighborhoods he helped to build as well as at Hof HaCarmel Cemetery.
