Biography

Bertram Tracy Clayton served New York as a congressman before returning to uniform for the Great War, bringing both legal acumen and military discipline to his command. A veteran of earlier conflicts, he took seriously the duty to lead soldiers into battle while judging policy through the lens of experience.

He was killed in action in 1918 while observing front-line positions in France, and his sacrifice exemplified the resolve of those who left peaceful careers to defend the nation once again.
