Biography

Bushrod Johnson was a West Point graduate who devoted a large portion of his life to the army and the causes he believed in. He rose through the ranks of the Confederate forces, commanding brigades in several major campaigns and earning the respect of contemporaries for his tactical thought and steady demeanor amid battlefield turmoil.

After the Civil War he remained a fixture in memory as a thoughtful veteran, sharing his insights with younger officers and keeping alive the stories of comrades who had gone before. His interment in Nashville City Cemetery marks the place where friends and family could honor a life shaped by duty and remembrance.
