Biography

Canute Peterson was born in Norway in 1824 and embraced the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before emigrating to America, where he helped lead fellow converts across the plains.

He played a vital role in establishing Ephraim and surrounding settlements, served in the territorial legislature and in other civic capacities, and his labors are remembered near the graves at Ephraim Pioneer Cemetery.
