Biography

Carlo Franzoni (1789–1819) was an Italian-born sculptor whose brief but significant career contributed to the artistic development of the young American republic. Working in the neoclassical tradition, Franzoni brought European artistic sophistication to American public and private commissions during the early nineteenth century.

Though he lived only thirty years, Franzoni's artistic legacy endured through his sculptural works and his influence on American artistic practice.
