industrial efficiency expert

Biography

Charles Bedaux devoted his career to understanding the forces that shaped industrial productivity, developing the Bedaux System of work measurement that was adopted by factories, shipyards, and railways across North America and Europe. He worked alongside engineers and managers to encourage scientific planning of operations, believing that precise measurement could foster fairness as well as efficiency in the workplace.

Traveling the world as a consultant, he brought attention to the practical needs of workers and the need for training programs that complemented technical systems, all while remaining engaged with civic life in the Boston area and the wider community that now remembers him at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
