Charles Edward Trail devoted his life to the civic life of the Mount Olivet community, investing his energies in local enterprises and supporting the institutions that gave the neighborhood structure and hope. Residents knew him as a steady presence who brought thoughtful leadership to every board and committee he joined.

He championed libraries, schools, and neighborhood relief efforts, encouraging younger citizens to take part in public service, and he now rests in Mount Olivet Cemetery beneath branches that have seen generations benefit from his diligence.
