Charles F. Orthwein was a St. Louis businessman whose energy in the grain trade helped secure the city’s place as a national hub of commerce after the Civil War.

He also supported charitable endeavors and helped to sustain civic institutions that served families across the region, and his legacy rests at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
