Charles Sorley
1895–1915 (age 20)
Biography
Charles Hamilton Sorley was a promising young Scottish writer and poet whose literary career was cut short by his service in World War I. Despite his brief time as a published author, Sorley demonstrated considerable talent and originality in his verse, contributing meaningfully to early twentieth-century English literature with his distinctive voice and thoughtful observations on human experience.
Sorley's death in combat at the age of twenty marked the loss of a writer whose potential remained largely unfulfilled. His collected works, though limited in volume, continue to be studied and appreciated for their emotional depth and literary merit, serving as a poignant reminder of the cultural losses inflicted by the Great War.
