Biography
Johnny Poe was an American football player who represented his country in the early development of collegiate and professional football during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As an athlete, Poe contributed to the growing popularity and refinement of American football during a formative period in the sport's history.
Poe's life ended in 1915 during World War I, when he was killed in action while serving with the British Expeditionary Force in France. His death exemplified the sacrifice made by Americans who volunteered to fight in the Great War before the United States officially entered the conflict.
