Biography

Claire Lee Chennault pioneered airpower cooperation in China, organizing the American Volunteer Group and later the Fourteenth Air Force to strike a steadfast blow in defense of the Allied cause in Asia. His tactical innovations and respect for the Chinese people made him an enduring figure in the long war against aggression.

He believed deeply in training and preparation, qualities he instilled in pilots and staff who held the skies over China during some of the war’s darkest days, forging friendships that endured well beyond the conflict.
