Biography

Daniel Giraud Elliot was a naturalist and illustrator whose meticulous books on birds and mammals, accompanied by his own lithographs, helped bring the wider world of natural history into American homes and museums.

He supported scientific institutions and was a founding patron of the American Museum of Natural History, and he rests among other patrons at Woodlawn Cemetery.
