Biography
Dmitry Tolstoy was a distinguished Russian scientist whose contributions to his field reflected the intellectual traditions of Imperial Russia. He conducted his research and scholarly work during a period of significant scientific advancement in Russia.
Like many members of the Russian intelligentsia, Tolstoy emigrated following the Russian Revolution, eventually settling in Nice. He continued his scholarly pursuits in exile until his death in 1941. His burial in the Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Nice reflects the substantial community of Russian émigrés who found refuge on the French Riviera.
