Dorothy G. Page, known as the “Mother of the Iditarod,” transformed Alaska’s rich traditions into a spirited annual race that now delights the world and honors the courage of sled dog teams.

Her creativity and persistence also energized her community as she promoted heritage, literacy, and a love of the northern wilderness.
