Biography
Eddie Layton's organ notes became synonymous with New York City sports, as he played for the Yankees, Mets, Rangers, and Islanders over the course of a 50-year career. His joyful, melodic style lifted spirits at Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium, and he was equally at home playing recitals, Broadway shows, and seasonal concerts.
Layton also recorded dozens of albums, taught students, and warmly greeted generations of fans who remembered that melodic flourish signaling the start of summer baseball; he was laid to rest at Mount Hebron Cemetery after his 2004 departure.
