Edward Bangs (1756-1818) lived during the formative years of the American republic, coming of age during the Revolutionary War and witnessing the establishment of the new nation. His life spanned a period of significant social and political transformation in early America.

Bangs was laid to rest at Mount Auburn Cemetery, one of America's earliest and most significant rural cemeteries, reflecting the changing attitudes toward burial and commemoration in the nineteenth century.
