Biography

Born in 1835 as Pittsburgh's horizons expanded, Edward Brown Alsop witnessed the rise of factories, railways, and civic institutions, and he lent himself to the steadying rhythms of everyday community life.

Throughout his decades in the region he remained known for thoughtful counsel, and when age and memory came to rest in 1922 he was laid to rest in Allegheny Cemetery amid those who shared his devotion to the city's enduring promise.
