Biography

Born in 1840, Father Edward Ignatius Devitt embraced the Jesuit call to education and spiritual formation, guiding young men at Georgetown and beyond with patient scholarship and deep devotion to the Society's ideals.

Through decades of teaching, pastoral care, and leadership, he strengthened Georgetown's campus as a place of prayer and learning, leaving a legacy of service that is still honored at the Jesuit Community Cemetery.
