Biography

Edwin Drake's determination led him to drill the first commercially successful oil well in Titusville, proving that petroleum could be pumped from deep beneath the earth and setting off a revolution in energy.

Even after the boom, he remained a sober steward of his memories, encouraging the men who followed him to respect both the land and the promise of innovation.
