Edwin Forbes

Biography

Born in 1839, Edwin Forbes studied art in Brooklyn and became a special artist for Harper’s Weekly, bringing the realities of Civil War camps and battlefields to readers across the North.

After the conflict he continued to capture American landscapes and everyday life with a thoughtful eye, leaving a lasting visual record that comforts visitors to Green-Wood Cemetery today.
