Eleazer D. Wood

Biography

Eleazer D. Wood was born in 1783 and served with distinction as a military officer and engineer during the early decades of the American republic. His technical expertise and military acumen contributed to the nation's defense and infrastructure development during a critical period of growth and consolidation.

Wood's career reflected the professionalization of the American military and the increasing importance of engineering expertise in national defense. He died in 1814 at the relatively young age of 31, likely during service in the War of 1812, and was honored with burial at West Point Cemetery, the nation's premier military burial ground.
