Elizebeth Smith Friedman broke new ground as a cryptanalyst and intelligence officer whose sharp mind helped unlock encrypted communications that threatened the public safety of the United States.
She championed the critical role of skilled codebreakers, mentored others in the intelligence community, and her pioneering service is honored at Arlington National Cemetery.
