John Aaron Rawlins

Biography

John Aaron Rawlins was a prominent Union general and trusted aide to General Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War. Born in 1831, he rose through military ranks to become one of the most influential officers in the Union Army, serving as Grant's chief of staff and closest military advisor.

General Rawlins's contributions to the Union victory were substantial, and his loyalty and competence earned him the deep respect of his commanding general. He was honored with burial at Arlington National Cemetery upon his death in 1869, a fitting tribute to his significant military service and dedication to the preservation of the Union.
