Biography

Emil Ganz emigrated from Germany and made his home in Phoenix, becoming a successful merchant before being elected mayor twice, including terms in the mid-1890s and again during the early 1900s when the city faced rapid growth.

He worked to improve streets, water delivery, and business conditions while also supporting schools and charitable causes, and when he passed in 1922 his civic leadership was honored at Greenwood/Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery.
