Biography

Ernst Toller was a German playwright and poet whose impassioned works, like 'Man and the Masses', challenged the brutality of war and celebrated the possibility of a more humane society, and whose leadership in the Bavarian revolution revealed his commitment to peace.

Exiled to the United States, he continued to write and lecture for tolerance even as he struggled with despair, and he rests now at Ferncliff Cemetery with the mournful dignity his ideals inspired.
