Biography
Fannie Smith Washington devoted herself to teaching in the early years of the Tuskegee Institute, encouraging rural students to embrace literacy, practical skills, and the confidence to shape their own destinies.
The compassion she showed to families, combined with her partnership with Booker T. Washington, left an imprint on the school’s culture of mutual respect; her grave in the Tuskegee University Campus Cemetery remains a quiet place of remembrance for those she guided.
