Franz Cramer
1772–1848 (age 76)
Biography
Franz Cramer, born in 1772, earned a reputation as one of the leading violinists and composers of his generation, ultimately serving as Master of the King’s Music after decades of devotion to the orchestra and stage.
He spent his final years in Hampstead, where his refined musicianship and mentorship of younger players left a gentle echo within the parish of St John-at-Hampstead; the memorial there honours a life dedicated to the cultivation of harmony and the dignified service of Britain’s royal and ecclesiastical ceremonies.
