Frederick Douglass rose from the depths of slavery to become one of the nineteenth century's most powerful voices for freedom, writing eloquent narratives and delivering speeches that stirred hearts across the nation and beyond.

Though he spent much of his later life traveling and advising leaders, he cherished the quiet of Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester, where visitors still come to honor his tireless advocacy for justice.
