Frederick William Matthiessen

Biography

Frederick William Matthiessen, born in 1835, was known for generously sharing his talents and resources to promote community well-being and education. He believed in lifting others through thoughtful action and sought to create opportunities that would endure beyond his lifetime.

When he passed in 1918, the institutions and neighbors he supported remembered him as a visionary with a compassionate heart, and he rests today at Oakwood Cemetery.
