Gaston Chevrolet, born in 1892 in Switzerland, came to America with a family of inventors and engineers, carving out his own path as a daring race car driver whose skill earned him the 1920 national championship.
He paid the ultimate price during a race later that year, but fans and fellow drivers continue to celebrate the courage of a champion whose remains lie at Holy Cross and Saint Joseph Cemetery.
